Located in the province of San Juan in the west of the country. To the north and east it borders the province of La Rioja to the south of San Luís. In the south it borders Mendoza and in the west the Cordillera de los Andes (Andes mountain range) on the border with Chile. The Provincial Park of Ischigualasto is a paleontological reserve of great value and unique in the world.

It is one of the places where you can find a relatively complete sequence of Trisiac sediments (Mesozoic era). They date back to 180 million years ago. They contain fossils that make it possible to study changes in the fauna, the birth of new animals and the extinction of others.
In the last few years the park has been in the international news as remains were found of the Eoraptor, one of the oldest dinosaurs. It is a new type and species for scientists.

Mystery and amazement are two words that summarize the experience of tourists seeing the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley). One of the most striking aspects are its multi-coloured rocks that as a result of different types of erosion have taken on the capricious forms of animals and other objects.

The park possesses a circuit for cars of some 40 km that you can drive on at your own pace. It has five stations (El Gusano, Valle Pintado, Cancha de Bochas, El Submarino y El Hongo). They are the main points of interest. It takes about three hours to finish the circuit.
The excursions leave every half hour in peak periods as in the winter holidays to attend to the high demand. A guide of the park provides all explanations.
